The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Corporate Accounting co-op student/intern for the Summer 2021 work term (May to August) to provide business analysis and support the team on different initiatives.

The Corporate Accounting co-op student/intern will work within our Corporate Accounting branch.
This is a great opportunity to gain a broad understanding and experience in areas such as business planning, vendor payment management, business analysis, and project management, along with the use of technologies and applications including Microsoft NAV, MS Office, Excel, and Share Point.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You will work with the Corporate Accounting branch in our Finance department.
The Finance department is organized into five branches: Investment Accounting, Performance Measurement, Corporate Accounting, Tax, and Business Reporting and Analytics.
The Corporate Accounting Branch is responsible for corporate financial management including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, monthly and quarterly reporting, annual audited financial statements, fair and equitable cost allocation and recovery, stewardship of Finance-related policies and procedures, certain tax filings, expense claim administration, banking and corporate treasury functions, payables and receivables management, and other projects as needed by Management and the Board.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Assist with various Finance projects, including procedural documentation
Assist with the processing of payables and receivables for the corporation, including employee reimbursement claims and vendor/customer invoices
Research best practices, provide recommendations, and work collaboratively in a team environment
Support the Corporate Accountant on other tasks as required by the Corporate Accounting department

Good understanding of business principles and project management methodologies
Demonstrates an ability to gather and process large amounts of data and information and present it in a clear and concise manner

Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description
Has relevant prior work experience in an accounting/bookkeeping role
Pursuit of the CPA designation preferred
REQUIRED SKILLS
A fundamental knowledge of basic business management and investment-related disciplines
Enrolled in a relevant undergraduate-level program
Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality and attention to detail
Have an interest in investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
Strong research skills combined with analytical and problem-solving abilities
Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint
Previous work or co-op/intern experience is preferred

Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC
Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
