This is a temporary position

Function:

Direct Illustrative content for CBC Communications using sophisticated techniques, professional experience and creative flair, produces an artistically superior product.

Performs specialised tasks in graphics consistently conceiving original and unique artistic works.

Imprints a personal unique style on the required work adding value to the final product.

Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC or industry standards but there is wide latitude for independent action, judgment and initiative.

Duties are performed with minimal direction and in collaboration with program personnel.

There are often requirements to be self-administered with the expectation of producing desired results within guidelines.

As an Art Director you will also be expected to jump into other creative meetings and lead teams in creative brainstorms and development of content.

Key Tasks:

Work closely with the other members of the creative team, to develop visual concepts and lead the overall creative design.

Within delegated limits,assigns,coordinates and checks the work of other staff assigned to the project and reports on matters related to performance, discipline and safety.

Daily involvement as an active member of the creative team throughout the design and brand processes throughout the day to ensure continuity.

Consults with other specialists involved throughout the production and post-production processes of the assignment to ensure continuity of creative concept, including the optimum design and visual unity.

Interprets strategies to develop ideas and concepts.

Creates visual elements reflecting those ideas as well as modifying, adapting and improvising on existing elements within the Communications branding strategies.

Makes presentations and pitches,concepts, conclusions and recommendations to the Communications team.

Help develop and implement a bold and innovative approach to producing marketing and promotional content.

Performs all or part of the function or duties of an equivalent or lower classification.

As assigned or required, you may be required to perform any or all of the following tasks:

Assist in the training of others.

Develop style guides and tools to support production teams.

Research and implement new technological solutions and workflows.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

A university degree or equivalent in Graphic Design and computer graphics.

At least 8-10 years of directly related experience in television program production and demonstrated experience designing for Communications, including leading projects or program initiatives that required creative, collaborative and innovative contributions.

A working knowledge of the CBC brand strategy across multiple platforms.

Knowledge of editing tools such as Adobe Premiere and Avid is considered an asset.

Fluency in software including, but not limited to, After Effects; Illustrator; Photoshop,

Good knowledge of Adobe Media Encoder and/or video compression techniques.

Ability to both conceptualize and build creative assets as requested for broadcast and online content.

Strong visual design skills with an emphasis on typography and layout.

Knowledge of best practices for broadcast and web, especially when it comes to branding.

Ability to visualize and present ideas in a timely manner.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet daily deadlines.

Strong communication skills.

Creative out of the box thinker.

Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Aware of new design trends and technology.

Demonstrated collaboration skills.

Willingness to be continually enhancing design skills and bring ideas to the team.

Able and willingness to work overtime and on weekends, when required.
